14th week ( Last week of lecture )

Hi everyone ☺ So this is the last week of our first semester. We learned about the Microbial Metabolism and Nutritional Requirements of Microorganisms. And also for this week, we had the Three Minute Talk (3MT) for our SCL session. The title for the 3MT is ' Adopt a Microbe'. This project help us to gain more knowledge about other microbes as there are like tons of them. We managed to share information that we gathered among each other and we learned about so many new things that are very interesting. So for the 3MT, I had choose a bioluminescence bacteria as it really catches my attraction about these bacteria. For me, they are very unique and intere4sting to explore about.   I focused on the bioluminescence bacteria that contain in the anglerfish esca. So basically, the anglerfish gets their food in interesting way with the help of bioluminescence bacteria which is also known as mutualistic symbiotic relationship. This ugly deep fish has a long manoeuvrable lure on t

13th week

It was a very hectic week for all of us. Well, last weeks of the semester. We have few presentations going on, and the highlight of the week is MINIC 2017 ( Microbes Invention Innovation and Ideation Challenge). I have wrote about the MINIC on my other post. Do check em out :) During this week lectures, we learned about two new topic which are ' The Disinfectant and Sanitation' and ' Microbial Growth'. Both of the topic are very important, it is same as the theory of basic technique but addtition of informations. Also, this is the last week of our lab session for the first semester. We managed to do few quizzes among the groups as a revision for our final test. I would like to show my gratitudes and thanks to Dr Adelene, Dr Fairol, our demos and of course our lab assistants ☺❤

Class trip ☺ Since Dr Wan is away to Sydney, we have our class trip to Institut Biosains (IBS). This is a place where post graduate students do their research. The main reasons we went there was to learn more about electron microscopy.  There, we were introduced and explained about the process that are taken in order to prepare the samples for the observation under electron microscopy later. Some of the staffs were assigned to explained to us. We have opportunities to see few electron microscope such as Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and etc. I was very amazed by the micrograph that appeared at the computer screen.  Transmission Electron Microscope

Microbiology For this week, we learned about a new topic which is 'Fungi'. We managed to have a discussion with our seniors about the topic we are going learned. As usual, we were assigned a task to pick a fungi and gather any kind of informations about the fungi chosen. The seniors also shared their knowledge about the topic. Our group picked and interesting fungi which is Ergots or known as Claviceps purpurea . It has a very interesting history about the fungi.  Check the link below to gain some knowledge about our chosen fungi !  https://www.tes.com/lessons/cU80gib2fD-C0Q/edit

Microbiology During our first class this week with Dr Wan, we were assigned in our group to create a quiz or any games based on the topic ' Internal Structure of Prokaryotes'. This quizzes and games helps us to test our knowledge on the topic that we had learned. Our group managed to get the highest marks two times from the games provided. These kind of activities helps us to learn in a fun and interesting way.  Our group had made a word search. Do try to test your knowledge :)  During the second class of the week, each of the group were given an organelle. From the organelle, we had to search for the uses or any impact of the organelle in prokaryotes.

MINIC project stands for ' Microbes Invention Innovation And Ideation Challenge' that combine three courses which is Microbiology students, Biotechnology students and Biocell students in a group. Our group was assigned a theme which is the 'Forestry' 🌳 From the project, I have learned a lot of things. First of all, this project helps me to enhance my creativity. The most important thing is to come out with a problem statement. It helps me to think critically in order to find a solution for the problem. Other than that, this project helps to improve my communication skills and leadership. At the first process of the project, all of us came out with different ideas and opinions about the project. We decided to change our microbe at the very last minute due to missunderstood about the concept and informations. However, we managed to settle everything. Other than that, hearing others opinion is very important as we need respect on others even they have different opini
